We are pleased to announce that the Fondation d’enterprise Hermès is having a solo exhibition “La Vita Nuova” by Jaeeun Choi at Ginza Maison Hermès Le Forum from 14 October 2023 until 28 January 2024.
The exhibition is one of two exhibitions titled “Ecology: Dialogue on Circulations” which examine ecological practices in art.
The exhibition “La Vita Nuova” looks back on the 40-year career of Jaeeun Choi and the artist’s continuous dialogue with ecology and nature. Weaving together ongoing projects and new works, the exhibition introduces Choi’s art as a process of reconstruction the ideal of coexistence with nature while she grapples with ecosystems essential to life. Among her notable works is the ongoing World Underground project, in with she represents time trough washi paper buried in seven countries around the world and later re-excavated. She quietly reveals aspects of our pressing ecological crisis in the Dreaming of Earth Project. a conservation effort that incisions the future in the natural reemergence of self-organizing ecosystems in the Korean demilitarized zone (DMZ), as well as White Death, a new work using dead coral, and A Poet’s Atelier, which meditatively spell out her perspective on plants that exist in our everyday world, yet vanish before we know their names. Her works sound the alarm for our emergency while remaining quietly poetic, as she seeks hope through the ideal of coexistence with nature in the space between life’s potential for violence and beauty.
